On Sunday, June 16, our Lead Pastor, Mark Malin shared about what’s next for him and for our church. In recent years, with the help of our board, lead team and other mentors, we have been praying, reading, discussing and seeking God in the area of leadership succession for Oakbrook. After much prayer and wise counsel, Mark has felt God clearly leading him to a new ministry assignment. Mark has accepted a new position as the Multisite Director for Northview Church. In this role he will be overseeing Northview’s Campus Pastors at each of their multi-site locations as well as helping them start new campuses.
It is a clear fit for Mark’s passion and giftedness.

Through conversations around Mark’s new role at Northview, discussions began between Northview Church and Oakbrook Church about the possibility of merging the two churches together. The leadership from both churches were guided by two important questions:

  1. Could our churches be better together?

  2. Could we have greater influence for the Kingdom of God if we joined together?

After much discussion and prayer, the leadership of both churches has decided that the answer to those questions is yes!

This church adoption is about saying yes to a grander vision of influence that we believe God has for both churches. Therefore, Oakbrook’s Board of Directors and Northview’s Board of Elders have unanimously voted to bring our two great churches together.

As we continue to move forward in this process, here are some important dates we want you to be aware of:

Sunday, August 4 - Merger Begins
We begin the journey of our two churches becoming one church with now 13 locations. Oakbrook people continue attending at their campuses. The primary change at this point will be the alignment via video teaching. Mark, Morgan and Eric will lead us as we participate in Northview’s annual “I Love My Church” series. The intent behind this series is not for Oakbrook people to immediately love Northview. Rather, it’s an opportunity for us to receive an introduction to what lies at the heart and soul of Northview. At this time, there will be two congregations meeting in Kokomo, one at the current Northview Kokomo facility and one at the current Oakbrook Kokomo facility. All Oakbrook locations will hold one service at each of their locations at 10 AM.

Sunday, September 2 — Sunday, October 6 - Combined Services at Northview Kokomo
All Oakbrook locations will begin meeting at the current Northview Kokomo Campus, 2021 E Markland Ave. The length of this time varies by location. The Flora Campus will return to meeting in Flora on Sept. 15. The Peru Campus will return to meeting in Peru on Sept. 22. The Kokomo Campus will move into what will be our permanent location on Oct. 20. This season will also include a focused small group campaign to connect us to one another locally and encourage us to grow spiritually.

Sunday, October 13 - Good Neighbor Weekend
This weekend there will be no Sunday AM services at any location. Rather, every year, Northview practices “Good Neighbor Weekend” where rather than having services, each campus goes into their respective community to do serving projects and make a tangible impact. Each location will participate in community services projects (including Kokomo, Flora and Peru).

Sunday, October 20 - Grand Opening Weekend
This weekend will be a grand opening/relaunch as fully branded Northview locations.

We know this decision brings with it many questions. In an attempt to begin answering some of those questions, please see the Frequently Asked Questions document and information about the history of Northview Church by clicking the buttons below:

What Does This Mean for Existing Oakbrook Staff?

Northview has been very compassionate to our current staff team in the process of this merger. The majority of our staff will be moving forward through this merger on staff with Northview. For some of our staff, this transition for our church is a moment that God is using to prompt team members to step into new ministry assignments. We want to invite you to join us in praying for and cheering on all of our team members — those who courageously lead as Northview staff members and those who courageously step into new ministry assignments.
