Our Story

In 1985 Mark Malin, led a handful of people to launch a church for the un-churched in Kokomo. Fueled by a vision they caught at Willow Creek, they were passionate to shake-up the traditional view of church by infusing it with God’s creativity, excitement and life-change.

Oakbrook had it’s first service at Kokomo's Indiana University campus on September 8, 1985 in Havens Auditorium. It spent the next five years meeting in various places around Kokomo. After several services in one location, Mark would literally announce where the church would meet the following week!

The church built and outgrew a building on the corner of Park and Center Roads. Then, God provided the land, materials, passion, vision, and extreme volunteerism to build and move to the current south dixon road campus, on June 5, 2005.

Oakbrook is not a church that’s trying “fit in” to a particular church mold. We chase God everyday to see what He wants His mysterious and powerful church to look like. We have changed the way we do church over the years, and it’s a sure bet we will change as we follow God into the future.

Our mission is to help people find Jesus and live like Him. It’s a place where we will always be obsessed and go to extremes to reach people who don’t know Jesus. It’s a place of honest relationships; we’re all in it humbly together. And we’re helping each other do the slow methodical and rewarding work of maturing in Christ. The church is the hope of the world.
